Foreclosed Homes Pose Increased Summer Threat
Officials throughout Southern California Issue West Nile Virus Warnings and urge residents to take precautions!
Another unfortunate side effect of the many foreclosed homes in the Inland Empire and throughout Southern California are the many partially empty and stagnate pools and the increased threat they pose. Stagnant pools pose a significant risk because they become
ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
While the weather in California is ideal, it is also perfect for the “optimal development” of West Nile Virus with more than 109 days of temperatures above 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
West Nile Virus is a serious mosquito-born illness which can, in some cases, cause serious neurological damage and even death. The virus is typically spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes. California is known to have three species of mosquitoes able to carry the WNV.
Adding to the problem, stagnant pools must be repeatedly treated to stop mosquito production. The number of partially filled pools is sizable and vector control does not have the means or authority to drain or continually treat each pool.
Health officials suggest residents protect themselves by wearing repellant as well as securing their homes from the mosquitoes by making sure every door and window is covered by a well fitting screen.

Summer Brings Surge of Home Improvements
The summer months are a great time to take on home improvement projects, especially ones that are quick and cost effective. It is about getting the most bang for the buck and this year, its all about the latest products. For years, homeowners have been concerned with the unattractiveness of traditional screen doors yet not aware of the affordable and attractive alternatives on the market. However, the secret is out and StowAway Retractable Screens are quickly becoming homeowners’ first choice in summer home improvements.
Affordable
Keeping the home cool and comfortable is a top priority for home owners this summer. Running the air conditioner full time is not cost effective for most families, and not a desire for many more. Trending home improvement products include ones that let the homeowner bring the outdoors in and keep the home cool economically.
Top Home Improvement Projects: StowAway Retractable Screens
One of the top home improvement projects this summer include the installation of StowAway Retractable Screens .Unlike traditional screen doors, StowAway Retractable Screens retract when not in use, protecting them from damage as well as preserving the aesthetics of your home.
Great for Doors or Windows
The screens can be attached to the exterior frame or the interior frame of nearly any doorway or window, allowing you to open your home to the fresh air, without letting in bugs. The screening material is attached to a roller tube which spins on a vertical axis within the assembly’s housing. The screen is attached to a vertical pull bar which rides on two rails (top/bottom) and is used to stretch the screen material across the opening. Once deployed, the pull bar is fixed in place by one or more magnets installed on the side opposite the housing. StowAway Screens can span up to 84” wide and 108” tall on a single unit or up to 168” wide and 108” tall on a double unit.
Attractive, Yet Unobtrusive
One of the major drawbacks of traditional screen doors is that they can detract from the beauty of the home. That is one of the many places where the StowAway trumps the traditional screens. When not in use, the StowAway retractable screen rolls safely and slowly into its attractive, yet unobtrusive housing.
